Binges, Rain and Chaboni

Good Monday morning everyone!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine wasn't too bad. It rained all weekend and I'm very much a sit-in-the-sun kind of person, so the rain put a damper on my mood a bit.

Friday ended up being a really bad day for me (food-wise). It was one of those days where I felt constantly hungry and nothing was satisfying me... which led to a binge :( I decided to get some sushi from a near-by grocery store for lunch. Normally they come in packs of 9 pieces, which works out to be around 300-350 calories, but for some reason they were packed with 12 pieces. I told myself that I'd give my coworker the 3 extra (Ha!). Then I headed over to the bulk food store to pick up from ground flax. This was my downfall. I did get my flax, but I also grabbed a small bag of clodhoppers and chili lime cracker things. I then returned to my office and continued to eat all of the sushi followed by both bags of treats. I felt disgusting and so full! This feeling didn't stop me though. Once I got home my boyfriend decided that we should go to Swiss Chalet for dinner and I happily obliged. I'm pretty sure I had some Mini Eggs in there as well.

I ate so much food. I don't even know what came over me. It's been a while since I've had a binge quite that bad...

I woke up saturday morning feeling "off". My head felt light and just didn't feel myself. I honestly think it was from all the crap that I ate on friday. It was also rainy and crappy and I really didn't feel like going for a run, so I decided to do the 30 Day Shred instead. The good news is that I ate really well and felt much better after working out. That evening we headed over to our friends' place to watch the playoffs and it was really nice to get out of the house and visit with some good friends.

Yesterday I woke up, did some cleaning and headed out for a run. I felt kind of nauseous while running, but managed to push through it. It was my boyfriend's moms' birthday yesterday so we headed over to their place for the evening. We had some salmon, grilled chicken, salad, corn and strawberry shortcake. I didn't eat too much, but I was glad that I got my run in earlier in the day.

I heard through some coworkers last week that one of the grocery store chains here has started selling Chaboni Greek yogurt. I've noticed a Chaboni trend with the U.S. blogs and it sounds like it's a pretty popular brand down there! I love Greek yogurt and there are a ton of different brands/varieties here, but I figured Chaboni must be pretty good because everyone blogs about it. I guess they recently started distributing it in Canada, so I went to pick some up this weekend.

This morning I tried the black cherry flavour mixed with Fibre One cereal and flax. My breakfast has 17 grams of protein and 18 grams of fibre! I really liked the yogurt, but I'm not sure if it was worth the price. Greek yogurt is very pricey in general, but these were $1.99 for an individual size container. I picked up 5, but I may go back to my usual brand for cost reasons. I wish Greek yogurt was cheaper.

This picture doesn't do my breakfast justice ;)

Hope everyone has a great monday!

  1. oh i have not seen black cherry flavored chobani yet. i tend to get the flavors that are 2% fat cause i feel like they give me a bit more umm...satisfaction? haha i couldnt think of the word, keeps me from feeling hungry longer.
im from the US and those are a bit pricey, regular price is probably 1.60 a carton. most of the time the place i shop has them on sale for either 3 for $4 or 10 for $10 (you do not have to buy 10 to get the price break). ive been eating the kids chobani very berry is what the flavoring is. those come in packs of 4.

    1. I had a feeling that they might be a bit cheaper in the states. I meant to ask that actually. It looks like we only have a few flavours here right now, I'd like to try the lemon but it wasn't at the store. I know what you mean about feeling more satisfied with the full fat ones, I'm thinking that may have been why I didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would haha.

  2. I've never tried Greek yogurt before. I've heard it has a strange texture, which is why I haven't tried it yet. Your breakfast looks yummy, though!

I binge from time to time, too. I hate not being in control (of anything), so when I have an out of control binge, it disgusts me so bad. I used to do it at least once a week, but I finally over did it once and ended up throwing up all night long from my binge. It cured me for a good month or two. Hopefully someday we'll figure it out and no longer have that out of control feeling!

    1. Greek yogurt has a thicker consistency, which is what I love about it! I don't even enjoy regular yogurt now because I find it too runny lol.

It's amazing how binges make you sick the next day.

  3. A great way to cut down on the cost is to buy the plain variety in the larger tub and portion it out into individual servings. I top it with frozen fruit so it keeps it cool until I can eat it at work. Then sprinkle it with some Kashi Go-Lean Crunch when I'm ready to eat it. If you have a Costco or something like that it can be cheaper. Also, stock up when it's on sale. It lasts a while!

I've been a little binge-y too. Once I give in and have something full of carbs or sugar I can't stop the whole day. Our food is made to make us want more and it's a constant battle!

Good for you for working out on a rainy day.

    1. I think that's why I'll have to pass on Chaboni for now. They have a very limited selection in Canada right now and I didn't see the original kind. That being said, I can find another brand at Costco and it is cheaper (except I always spend too much money in costco whether I plan to or not lol). There's a brand here called Oikos and they have a Key Lime flavour that's to die for!!

  4. I like Chobani but it's kind of sweet for me with the fruit added - I usually get the Fage brand plain, and add my own fresh fruit. It's easy to make your own Greek yogurt too - take a bowl and put a cheesecloth over the top, scoop in some plain yogurt and let it drain overnight. Green yogurt is just regular yogurt with the extra whey strained out!

    1. I had the strawberry Chaboni this morning and found it sweet as well. We don't have Fage here, but we have a ton of other varieties...so I'll likely go back to one of those brands. Making your own sounds pretty easy, thanks!

  5. There's not fat free version of greek yogurt in my country, so I just eat regular non fat yogurt.

Hope you have a nice night ;)

  6. I've never heard of Greek yogurt...I do like yogurt though. I will have to research to see if it's something I might like.

I LOVE the idea of buying plain yogurt and then putting frozen fruit in it! Brilliant!

Sorry about the binge, but today is a new day!!

    1. I love it, but some people find it too thick. It seems to be a huge trend right now and every yogurt brand in our grocery store now has a greek version. A lot of the flavoured ones (Key lime!) taste like the pie filling.. yum!

  7. I just did a post about Chobani over on my blog but something one of the commenter's here mentioned that I forgot to on mine. I love to use the bigger tubs of the vanilla yogurt and mix in fresh fruit and Bear Naked granola. I know a lot of people are into Chia seeds and Flax seeds but, I just haven't tried them yet. Buying the bigger tubs of yogurt is a lot easier on the wallet too!!
